We are a few weeks into 2023 and everyone I've spoken to has a similar sense of optimism attached to this new year. The general consensus has been one of taking the lessons gleaned from the past couple of years, reprioritizing the things that really matter to us, and putting ourselves and our families first - as much as is possible.
The common theme seems to be "ease." Easing into this year, moving slowly - intentionally - and leaving behind the ideas and behaviors that we've discovered no longer work for us. This, of course, looks different for everyone, but the overall theme seems to be the same. We want to enjoy life, to relish the little moments, to delve deeper inside our hearts and bring to the surface what we value the most.
I decided, a bit spontaneously, to take the week between Christmas and New Year’s off and close the shop. While this decision was a little outside my norm of meticulously researched decisions, it turned out to be exactly what I needed! My family got some extra quality time together, we watched a lot of movies, hung out, and I was able to deep clean the shop and rearrange in preparation for an early January photo shoot. Looking back on that week, I am so grateful that I took the time to ease into the year and I’ll be making that my way to begin each year from now on.
Because my birthday is so close to the beginning of the year, I always feel like the turning of the calendar gets a bit of an extension: the Gregorian calendar year begins 1/1, my solar return is 1/11 and the Lunar New Year begins shortly thereafter. I always feel like I get a little longer to ease into the new year and I’m not rushed to make resolutions, do my year ahead tarot spread, or start all the new year projects. In fact, these last couple years, I’ve found that taking some extra time to line things out gives me a deeper perspective of what I want to create in the coming months.
All of this is to say that I took my time thinking about what I want for the shop in 2023 and I have some really fun ideas that I think you will be excited about! There are new classes on the schedule, a new in-shop loyalty program, new community members coming to the shop to share their gifts, new items being added to the store and A NEWLY DESIGNED WEBSITE!
This is probably what I’m most excited about. Jamie Kincaid, badass owner of JK Photos, worked on a branding shoot for me and I am over the moon with how the photos turned out! Jamie completely captured the magic of the shop. All of the new photography on the site is hers, and you can definitely tell the difference between her amazing pics and my iPhone product shots! Please take a moment to check it out if you have a moment.
As an incentive, the first five orders placed after this email goes out will receive 10% off their order AND a free gift! Just use the code FREEBIEME at checkout.
