Summer is here!
Summer news: cool new candles, just-listed workshops, and some extra ways to cool off when it’s too hot to do anything else!
Are we still enjoying summer or have we all melted?
How are you all staying cool this summer? We are trying to keep the shop at a nice, comfortable temperature, we’ve been hanging out by the pool with our family and friends, and we’re drinking lots of water, cocktails/mocktails, and tons of our newest Full Moon Teas made with loads of cooling herbs. Our new Sturgeon Moon tea is a must over ice!
Even though it’s BLAZING hot right now, that hasn’t stopped us from adding some cool new classes to our schedule for August and September, releasing some fun summer candles, and bringing in lots of awesome new merchandise. We’ve also been adding a selection of curated items from our in-store gift selection to our website, so you can peruse some of the items we offer from other fantastic artisans! Plus, we are looking forward to the Fall and are already finalizing our Autumn/Winter Events and Workshops.
But, as much as I try to enjoy each season as it comes, I am definitely weary of the heat. I keep thinking that it’s just because I’m getting older, but we see that the world is measurably hotter now than it was when I was growing up and weathering summers in Arizona. I don’t remember summers staying this hot, for such a long a time and I’m beyond grateful for air conditioning.
The reality of climate change makes me increasingly committed to making sure that Earth Spirit uses the most sustainable, smallest carbon footprint practices as possible. Even though it’s a small step, it’s something that is paramount to my vision of my company. I am mindful of when we send out orders, so if you order a candle and live in a hot climate, expect me to send you an email so we can coordinate a shipping date when things cool down a bit. No one wants to open a liquified candle!Over the years, our packaging has changed in an effort to make sure we are making the most sustainable decisions possible. Did you know that we have a candle jar return program in place? You can bring in your used Earth Spirit candle glass, and we reuse the jars! We even have a punch card that gets you $10 off when you return 10 jars (I give extra punches if you bring the jars back clean.) You can also bring in your empty body oil, clay face mask, and bath tea containers and have them refilled. And, we happily will fill your own clean containers with our bulk tea and herbs.
I also try my best to buy wholesale items that align with our commitment to sustainability. I try to purchase from local businesses when I can and I expand out regionally from there. I try to balance bringing in items that are handmade, sustainable, functional, and beautiful while remaining committed to natural packaging, shorter traveling distances and supporting companies that offer carbon offsets. You will find sustainable/recycled/recyclable/compostable packaging on Earth Spirit items and I am always willing to make a change to make our offerings as low impact as possible.
So, enough talk of all this heat! Keep scrolling for links to our upcoming classes, a favorite summer recipe that’s delicious and doesn’t require a ton of heat, a mocktail recipe, and a cool Spotify Playlist…
Cool down with some of our Summer favorites!
One of my new favorite, easy and quick summer meals is this one from Blue Apron for a Gnocchi, Corn, Shrimp and Tomato dish.
I mean, just look at that fresh basil my friend Ashley grew!
My husband and I took a quick trip to Walla Walla over the weekend and enjoyed an Aperol Spritz on the patio at the Walla Walla Bread Company. Talk about refreshing!
I’m excited to try this mocktail version from Entirely Elizabeth!
And finally, I hope you enjoy this Summer Mix I created on Spotify! I’ve been listening on repeat and you’ll definitely hear it playing if you stop by the shop!
Happy Summer!
